Color Consultations

Successful color selection is about more than picking your favorite color - it’s how the colors work together in context that makes the difference between an OK color and a “just right” color.

The right color can make all the difference. It can change how you feel in a space, and can change how the space feels. Color can make a too small room seem cozier and an awkward space feel better.

I’ll help you take the guesswork out of choosing your colors and help you understand what the colors you select are going to do to the space, and to each other. Together we’ll develop a palette that reflects your unique tastes and sensibilities, enhances your style and coordinates with the character of your home - creating the effect you are looking for.

A whole house full of just right color in about 90 minutes.

Paint lines I like and work with: (click on their names for more info)

  1.    Authentic Home (this is my current “go to” color line)

  2.   C2 (Great Colors!)

  3.    Benjamin Moore/Affinity

  4.    Farrow and Ball (because the light here is similar to England)

  5.    Yolo Colorhouse (developed in Portland)

  6.    Mythic (national zero VOC line available in smaller hardware stores)

I’m an independent designer and color consultant and I use the color lines that work for my clients. I don’t work exclusively with anyone or for anyone, so you can be assured it’s your best interests I have at heart

Here are some things past clients have to say about their Color Consultations.

“I hired Renate to help me with the interior color scheme of our home remodel. The colors of our home are fantastic and really make a huge difference in the way the home feels. She really listened to what we were looking for and helped us find our way through a subject that is complicated for us. Her services were so valuable that we have also had her help us with furniture shopping and our exterior colors as well. We just love the outcome. Thank you Renate!”

“Renate has chosen the color palette in both my homes. She understands how color can make or break a space, and she is a treasure trove of insight and ideas. If you need a little design support, she's just the person to call.”

Joanne M - Seattle

“I was having great difficulty imagining that anyone could make my house truly feel like my home. When I moved in, the house was adorned with 60's and 70's features that I could not see past. Renate helped transform my house from something I dreaded looking at to a place I'm happy to call home. The first project was simply helping with the color pallet of our walls. Just her help in this area made a huge difference in how I felt being in my home. The second project she designed for me was the most amazing shelving unit, which I consistently get complements on from guests. It's much more than storage; it's really an architectural element that grounds my home. Finally, Renate helped us with my kitchen remodel. It turned out even better than I had hoped! Renate Ruby is a excellent designer and I'm happy to endorse her.”

Hi Randy (painter) and Renate (colorist),

I just thought I’d send off a quick message to let you know that I am really pleased with my home’s newly painted interior.  The house is finally back together again and it is hard to put into words how different (in a good way) it feels.

One thing is that the new softer colors are much easier on the eyes, less bright than the white.  Also, as Renate said would happen, the eyes more naturally flow to the artwork, the water views and our beautiful hardwood floors and trim (though now we may need to beautify the trim as a secondary project).  Renate did a terrific job choosing colors and as a result, the house now has a completely different, more sophisticated and gentler appearance.

Randy’s crew of up to 3 did a fabulous job painting and obviously sincerely cared about the finished product.  I loved that each of the painters had tremendous experience in the industry, there were no high school/college kids in this pack, these were seasoned veterans!  Not to mention we all had a lot of fun; they were genuinely pleasant people to have around.  For sure I’ll have Randy back for a few touch up items, but that is totally expected and I know he will be happy to oblige, but for now I am enjoying having my house back together after a long haul (since early last summer when we added more hardwood flooring, which also looks amazing I must add-LaBlanc Floors, thanks!).

(Roger, Doug, Renate and Roz-you might come by and see the place sometime, it looks quite different!  Roger, thanks for the paint referral.)

(If any of you require further references, please do not hesitate to contact me).

Thanks everyone,

Jackie

Renate,

We painted the living room, Ann's office and part of the entry way and we "love the colors you selected".   The colors look great in our home  and you can pat yourself on the back for advising us of colors we would not have selected (at least in those shades).

At first we thought the grey-blue was too grey when we saw it in the paint can, but it looks fabulous on the walls.

We even have the entry way closet built in.  Thanks for that suggestion as well.

Renate,

My house is painted and my new front door will go in next week!  I went with the body color I liked (Amazon soil) and the trim you picked to go with it (Lychee). I just wanted to tell you that I love, love, love the way it turned out!  My neighbors are very excited as well!

Thanks for helping me get to a place where the concrete  foundation was something I worked with rather than against.  And thanks for helping me get to this great color and for working hard with me until I had a color I was really excited about.  For me and what I like, we hit the nail on the head!
